A Sensational Smoking Cessation: The OXVA Artio 2 (Our Review)

I’ve reviewed a lot of pod systems over the years, and most of the time when a company claims they’ve created a “real cigarette alternative,” it ends up feeling like marketing more than reality. The OXVA Artio 2 is one of the few devices that actually made me stop and rethink that skepticism.

From the moment I started using it, it was obvious that this wasn’t designed for hobbyist vapers chasing giant clouds or candy flavors. OXVA built the Artio 2 specifically for smokers and heated tobacco users looking for something familiar. Everything about the device—from the airflow to the flavor profile—leans heavily into recreating the sensation of smoking.

The Artio 2 uses prefilled 2 mL pods available in either 8 mg or 18 mg nicotine strengths. Inside those pods are OXVA’s proprietary tobacco blends paired with what they call a “nest mesh” coil system. There’s also an intelligent liquid-control system working behind the scenes to regulate consistency and vapor production.

On paper, it sounds overly technical for such a simple device. In practice, though, the goal is straightforward: make vaping feel closer to smoking than traditional pod systems do.

Let's talk about it...

The OXVA Artio 2: The Best Way to Quit Smoking?

Size, look, and feel

The first thing I noticed about the Artio 2 was how refined it feels. A lot of beginner-focused pod systems end up feeling cheap or overly plastic, but this one feels surprisingly premium in the hand.

The zinc-alloy frame has a smooth satin texture with subtle detailing around the edges that gives it personality without trying too hard. My review unit had the leather-style finish on the panels, and honestly, it looks excellent. It’s mature and understated instead of flashy.

The shape also deserves credit. The body is slim, rounded, and very pocket-friendly. It fits naturally in the hand and doesn’t have that bulky square feel that some pod devices suffer from. Even after carrying it around for a few days, I kept appreciating how lightweight and comfortable it was.

OXVA really nailed the design here. If someone handed this to me without branding, I’d still immediately recognize it as a polished, thoughtfully designed device.

Getting started

The Artio 2 is about as simple as vaping gets. There are no buttons, menus, wattage controls, or airflow adjustments to deal with.

I took the pod out of the packaging, inserted it into the device, and started vaping. That’s it.

The only indicator on the device is a small battery light system on the front. Green means the battery is high, blue means it’s around the middle range, and red means it’s time to recharge.

That simplicity is clearly intentional. OXVA wanted this to feel approachable for smokers who may have zero interest in learning vaping terminology or settings.

How does it hit?

This is where the Artio 2 becomes really interesting.

The vape experience honestly caught me off guard because it doesn’t feel like a typical pod vape. The draw is tighter and more cigarette-like, but it’s the flavor profile that really changes things. Instead of tasting like sweetened tobacco e-liquid, these pods actually recreate the taste of heated or burning tobacco surprisingly well.

There’s a smoky dryness to the inhale along with subtle ash notes and a muted crackling sensation while puffing. It reminded me much more of heated tobacco products than standard vaping.

As someone who quit smoking more than a decade ago, I had mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I found the realism impressive. On the other hand, it almost felt too accurate for my personal tastes.

Still, I can absolutely understand why smokers would connect with it.

The airflow is smooth and the auto-draw activates quickly with almost no delay. The experience feels very controlled and deliberate rather than airy or overly powerful.

That said, I did run into a couple of issues during testing. The pods occasionally struggled to wick properly when I chain-vaped them. After several consecutive puffs, I’d sometimes get a dry hit creeping in. Slowing down between draws helped, but it’s definitely something I noticed consistently.

The other thing that stood out was the throat hit—or lack of one. Considering how cigarette-focused this device is, I expected a sharper hit in the throat. Instead, the vape feels cooler and smoother than I anticipated.

Best flavors

The flavors on the Artio 2 are unlike traditional tobacco vapes. These aren’t sweet cigar-style blends or leafy aromatic tobaccos. They’re designed to mimic actual smoked tobacco.

Golden Tobacco ended up being my favorite because it had a softer, slightly sweeter finish compared to the others. I picked up subtle caramel-like notes underneath the tobacco, which made it easier to vape consistently.

Original Tobacco felt the closest to an actual cigarette. It’s darker, smokier, and heavier on the ash notes. Smokers transitioning directly from cigarettes will probably appreciate this one the most.

Double Apple Shisha was the oddball of the lineup. It still carries the earthy undertones of the Artio system, but the apple adds a softer layer that separates it from the tobacco-focused pods.

Battery life and charging

The 900 mAh battery may not sound huge by modern standards, but it makes sense for this kind of device. During my testing, one full charge lasted roughly the same amount of time as one pod.

Charging took around 40 minutes, which felt perfectly reasonable. The device also supports pass-through vaping, so I could continue using it while charging.

For the audience this device is targeting, I think the battery performance is completely adequate.

Here's the Verdict...

Reviewing the OXVA Artio 2 was a strange experience for me because it pushed me outside my normal preferences as a vaper.

Personally, I don’t enjoy cigarette-style flavors anymore. But I can still recognize when a device accomplishes exactly what it set out to do—and the Artio 2 absolutely does that.

OXVA created a vape that genuinely captures elements of smoking better than almost anything else I’ve tried. The flavor realism, draw style, simplicity, and overall feel are all clearly aimed at smokers first.

The device itself is also exceptionally well made. It feels premium, polished, and thoughtfully designed from top to bottom.

My biggest complaints are the occasional dry hits and the lack of a stronger throat hit. I’d also like to see more flavor variety in the future because not every smoker wants to stay locked into tobacco-style profiles forever.

Still, I think OXVA is onto something here. For smokers or heated tobacco users looking for a transition device that actually feels familiar, the Artio 2 could be one of the better options currently available.
